Beethoven & Bruckner @ RFH

@ Royal Festival Hall
London Philharmonic Orchestra
Beethoven & Bruckner

Matthias Pintscher: Towards Osiris
Ludwig Van Beethoven: Piano Concerto No.5 (Emperor)
Interval
Anton Bruckner: Symphony No.1 in C minor (Linz version)
London Philharmonic Orchestra
Vladimir Jurowski conductor
Lars Vogt piano

Conductor Vladimir Jurowski is joined by pianist Lars Vogt in this concert featuring works by Pintscher, Beethoven and Bruckner.
'Das kecke Beserl' Anton Bruckner called his First Symphony - 'the saucy little besom' in a literal translation that remains a wholly inadequate reflection of the symphony's impish charm and bold impetuosity. Yes, Bruckner's First was no cautious water-testing, but a statement made loud and clear enough to herald one of the greatest symphonic careers, as witnessed in the work's daring, dashing final chapter.
Before Beethoven's epic Emperor Concerto comes a veritable sculpture in sound by Matthias Pintscher, unquestionably one of the most individual and ear-enchanting composers currently at work. He describes his multi-hued, intimate-yet-broad music as suggesting 'an imaginary theatre'; his powerful Towards Osiris raises the curtain on this concert.

The Tempest @ Royal Haymarket Theatre

The Tempest is one of my favourite Shakespeare's. Diverse interpretation of Ariel is the main attraction that catches my attention and a key aspect that I seek in each production.

not so much inspiring characterisation of Ariel in this play, I have to say.
though 2nd half was more fun and it was interesting to see Ralph Fiennes on the stage.
